Pinewood School,* Los Altos Hills

The athletic improvements designed for the Pinewood School included replacing the natural turf playing field with new infill synthetic turf because of the heavy use the field received.

However, the Town of Los Altos Hills did not allow the use of artificial surfaces. We assisted the school by providing information and documentation to the Planning and Building departments to educate them about the benefits of synthetic turf, such as the environmental advantages of reduced water requirements, elimination of the need for pesticides and fertilizers, and greatly reduced maintenance. After 18 months and many meetings, we were able to obtain the required permits for our client.

Our services included providing the designs for grading, drainage, utilities, and specifying the materials for the athletic field improvements. The project was completed in a design-build team with Robert A. Bothman, Inc.
