Fremont Union High School District, Sunnyvale

Funded by Bond Measure B, Fremont Union High School District is renovating educational facilities throughout the District, including athletic facility renovations. Verde Design was chosen to design improvement packages for the athletic facilities at all five District high schools: Cupertino, Fremont, Homestead, Lynbrook, and Monta Vista. After preparing a District-wide master plan, our professionals developed construction documents for phased implementation to alleviate the impact of construction on the District's athletic programs.

To make the best use of the funding, the District has chosen the lease/leaseback delivery method for construction of the new, state-of-the-art athletic complexes.

Construction began first at Homestead and Fremont High Schools. Our design team worked closely with the District and the contractor to move the project from concept to DSA submittal in 6 weeks, allowing construction to begin in Summer 2009.

Phase I construction at Homestead High School was finished in Spring 2010 and opening baseball and softball games were held May 6, 2010.

Project Program

Athletic renovations at the sites include new natural turf and synthetic turf fields, backstops, batting cages, all-weather tracks, new grandstand bleachers, sport field lighting at some sites, infrastructure, and code compliance upgrades. Several sites had photovoltaic improvements integrated with the field improvements.

Construction Cost

Estimated at $10 million for each site.
