Palo Alto High School Athletic Facilities Renovations, Palo Alto

The Palo Alto Unified School District retained Verde Design to prepare a master plan and design renovations for the athletic facilities at Palo Alto High School. At the Vikings Stadium, the field was renovated using synthetic turf and had permanent striping installed for football, soccer and track events. El Camino Field was reconstructed with synthetic turf as well and is striped for soccer and lacrosse play. Challenges at the El Camino Field included the tight footprint of the site and engineering the field to accommodate the irregular subgrade conditions. The baseball/softball/multi-use field challenged our designers to find ways to make optimal use of the small site. We installed a synthetic turf infield for the baseball field. The rest of the site is natural grass. We also designed support facilities and a parking area.

The use of synthetic turf allows the fields to withstand heavy use, reduces maintenance costs, and greatly reduces water use.
