Outstanding Track & Field Facility of the Year, 2018

Hayward HS - ASBA T&F WinnerThis year, Hayward High School’s new track and field was recognized as the American Sports Builders Association’s 2018 Outstanding Track & Field Facility of the Year. “Perhaps unique to this part of the country, the design of this award-winning facility carved into a hilltop overlooking the Bay Area in East Hayward was influenced by the site’s close proximity to an earthquake fault line. Adding to the challenge was the field area of the “bowl,” which was made up of half native and half fill soils. The site work needed to incorporate challenging stormwater management, along with a unique drainage system. But the result of this complete reconstruction of a 1950s-era field is a solid facility that the school, and community, can be proud of. The nonprofit American Sports Builders Association (ASBA) is a national organization for builders, designers, and suppliers of materials for tennis courts, running tracks, natural and synthetic turf fields, and indoor and outdoor courts and recreational sports surfaces. ASBA’s theme -“Build it Right”- is exemplified by the ASBA Awards Program. Each project represents a team effort between designers, builders, and suppliers who have collaborated to produce the highest quality in sports construction.” (Excerpt from ASBA 2018 Outstanding Facilities of the Year)
